Every Caps Lock product is milled, homogenized, filled, and lab-tested at our Ann Arbor facility using single-strain Psilocybe cubensis dried fruit-bodies. About Caps Lock
Caps Lock exists because dosing dried mushrooms is inherently variable — cap-versus-stem potency spread, size variance between fruits, and moisture drift after cure all combine to make eyeballing a dose imprecise. Grinding, homogenizing, and machine-filling into a fixed-weight capsule solves that variance. Every Caps Lock capsule contains a weighed dose of ground P. cubensis powder in a standard gel or veggie shell, dosed to ±5% potency per unit across a batch.
Caps Lock launched in early 2024 as a direct response to two years of counter conversations at Mush Love MI. First-time customers repeatedly asked how to dose consistently. Microdosers wanted a reliable daily unit that did not require a scale. Experienced users wanted a portable option that skipped grinder, tea, or lemon-tek prep. Existing capsule brands on the Michigan market either had potency variance of ±20% or higher, used blends with undisclosed ratios, or came at premium prices without third-party testing. Caps Lock addressed all three: single-strain formulations, tight ±5% potency window, and price parity with dried-weight equivalents.
Available in single-strain lines (Golden Teacher, Bluey Vuitton, Enigma, Tidal Wave, Albino Penis Envy) plus a multi-strain blend. Capsule weights: 100mg, 125mg, 200mg, 250mg per cap. Why Capsules vs Dried, Chocolate, or Gummies
Every psilocybin format delivers the same active ingredient. Format matters for four reasons: dosing precision, onset speed, taste, and portability.
Dosing precision. A capsule is the most precise consumer format because it contains a pre-weighed dose that has been homogenized across the batch. You know within a 5% window exactly how much psilocybin you are taking. Dried mushroom weight, by contrast, only tells you the mass of dried material — the actual psilocybin content varies by cap-stem ratio and cure quality even within a single strain and even within a single flush. Chocolates and gummies fall in between: mass-produced brands can hit tight per-piece potency, small-batch brands often cannot.
Onset speed. Capsules taken on an empty stomach onset in 30–60 minutes, peak at 90–120, and taper over 4–6 hours. This is slightly slower than lemon-tek (15–30 min onset) and similar to chocolate. Full stomach can delay onset another 30–60 minutes and slightly reduce peak. For predictable timing, take on an empty stomach or with light food (banana, dry toast).
Taste. Dried mushrooms taste like dried mushrooms — earthy, mildly bitter, unpleasant to many first-time users. Capsules taste like nothing (empty gel or veggie shell). Chocolates and gummies taste like their format but carry a slight mushroom aftertaste depending on brand and dose. For anyone with texture sensitivity or a gag reflex around dried fruit-bodies, capsules solve the problem.
Portability. A 28-cap Caps Lock bottle fits in a pocket, does not need refrigeration, does not stain, does not draw attention, and stores for 12–18 months at 90%+ potency in a cool dark place. For travel-friendly dosing (with the caveat that psilocybin remains federally scheduled and interstate transport is illegal), capsules are the least conspicuous format.
Potency & Lab Testing
Every Caps Lock batch is tested by an independent third-party laboratory for three markers:
- Psilocybin content: absolute mg per capsule, measured by HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography). Batch pass criteria: within ±5% of labeled dose.
- Psilocin content: separate quantification of the psilocybin metabolite, which is also active. Ratios vary by strain and cure.
- Homogeneity: three-point sampling across a batch confirms uniform distribution of active ingredient.
- Microbial screen: total plate count, coliform, mold, and yeast — Caps Lock lots that fail microbial screen are not sold, full stop.
Lab reports for every current lot are on file at the store. Ask counter staff for the sheet on any specific bottle before or after purchase. Reports include the third-party laboratory name, sample date, method, and results with pass/fail criteria.
Dosing Caps Lock
Standard dosing framework for adults, empty stomach, first-time use of a given strain:
- Microdose: 100–300mg (1–3 caps of 100mg, or 1 cap of 200mg). Sub-perceptual. Common protocols: 1 dose on, 2 days off, repeat.
- Threshold / museum dose: 500mg–1g (5–10 caps of 100mg, or 2–5 caps of 200mg). Mild mood lift, light perceptual shift, functional.
- Standard experience: 1.5–2.5g (7–12 caps of 200mg, or 6–10 caps of 250mg). Full perceptual, closed-eye visuals, emotional depth.
- Heavy experience: 3–5g (12–20 caps of 250mg). Ego dissolution, strong open-eye visuals, deep introspection. Sitter recommended.
- Heroic: 5g+. Reserved for experienced psychonauts with prior training, ideally with a sitter or in a ceremonial context.
Adjust for strain potency. Golden Teacher is the standard reference (medium potency). Enigma runs +30–50%; dose 30–50% lower. Albino Penis Envy runs +50–100%; dose 40–60% lower. Tidal Wave and Blue Meanie run high; dose 20–30% lower. Bluey Vuitton is balanced medium. Multi-strain blends fall near medium-standard.

Are Caps Lock capsules third-party tested? Yes. Every batch ships with third-party potency, homogeneity, and microbial test results. Ask staff at pickup for the current lot report — kept on file at the shop for every product on the shelf.
How does Caps Lock compare to whole dried mushrooms? Same active ingredient (psilocybin), same experience curve, more precise dosing. A 200mg Caps Lock capsule delivers the equivalent of 200mg of dried mushroom powder. For a 2g threshold experience, that is 10 capsules of a 200mg product. For microdosing, 1–3 capsules covers the standard 100–300mg range.
What is the shelf life? Sealed bottle in a cool dark place: 12–18 months at 90%+ potency. Do not refrigerate. Do not expose to heat above 190°F.
Are Caps Lock capsules vegan? The standard shell is a bovine-source gel capsule. A veggie (HPMC) shell is available on request for select SKUs; ask counter staff. Contents (ground P. cubensis) are always plant-based.
What if I take too many? Excessive dosing produces a longer, more intense experience but is not physically dangerous at reasonable ranges. Psilocybin has an extremely wide safety margin. Never mix psilocybin with lithium, tramadol, or MAOIs.
Can I combine capsules with other formats? Yes, and calculating a combined dose is straightforward: 500mg dried + 500mg capsule = 1g total. Combine formats for onset variation (dried onset is slower than lemon-tek) or dose stacking. Do not stack blindly on an ongoing trip.
Is Caps Lock available outside Ann Arbor? Wholesale Caps Lock licensing is in development for Michigan psilocybin retailers. Direct-to-consumer sales remain pickup-only at 2007 S State St.
